Wax is a natural product of the ear canal that serves many important functions, primarily to protect the ear from external dirt and contaminants. However, wax can become a problem if it builds up in the ear canal and prevents the transmission of sound through the ear. At the Ear and Hearing Clinic we are trained in ear wax removal, or cerumen management. If there are no contraindications to wax removal, the wax may be curetted, suctioned or gently washed from the ear. Ear wax softening drops are available at all of our clinics.
